rus·tic
1. of, pertaining to, or living in the country, as distinguished from towns or cities; rural.
2. simple, artless, or unsophisticated.
3. uncouth, rude, or boorish.
4. made of roughly dressed limbs or roots of trees, as garden seats.
5. (of stonework) having the surfaces rough or irregular and the joints sunken or beveled.
Simple, artless, or unsophisticated? Uncouth, rude, or boorish? Hell no! A little rough around the edges, sure, but I think you need to tone down those accusations ’online dictionary’. Jeez.
When I think of rustic love I think of romance of the most natural kind. Declaring your love by carving it into an old tree, running barefoot through fields of wild flowers, ‘snuggling up’ together among the hay in an old barn. Luckily for me rustic has fast become one of the most inspiring themes for weddings right now, and it lends itself nicely to one of my other favourite trends, diy. Never has there been a better time to make friends with mother nature (especially wood) and get to work crafting your own decorations. Think old bottles as beautiful vases, jars as drinking glasses, twine instead of ribbon, burlap as fabric, and wood for… well everything really. And the best bit is… non perfection is the goal (i.e mix rather than match).
So today I give you part two of my love affair with all things rustic, and if you missed the first one (and want some more rustic romance) click here…
