Waiheke Island really is a cracker spot to say I do, and gorgeous couple Mia & Karl were blessed by the weather gods with the most stunning of days! Nice.
A huge congratulations to Mia and Karl, and a special thank you to the talented Jess for sharing this special day with us.
How did your love story begin?
Not a very exciting story! But it was in 2002 we were 20 and 21. It was in a nightclub of all places!!!!!! I had seen him around for a few weeks and was always too shy to do anything. Apparently it was the same for him he had seen me also but was too shy to do anything. I think after a few awkward moments of our friends trying to play matchmaker we finally got thrown into each other and I mean literally! And we have been together ever since!!!
Why did you say ‘YES’?
After the most AMAZING proposal ever I couldn’t not! No we had been together for 10 years when we got married. We have been through everything together, He knows me better than any other person in this world. He is my best friend, the most amazing father and someone who I know will never let me down and whom I can trust with my life. Saying yes I didn’t even give it another thought it was just right. He’s the one because he loves me in every way possible and for who I am. He loves me when I am grumpy when I am being apparently high maintenance! He loves me when I look terrible and probably knows me better than I know myself.
What was your inspiration or theme for the day?
Colors were grey, blush pink and cream…so those colors and I was also in LOVE with the sort of vintage romance look. Loved jars, lace and soft toned floral.
What were your Save & Splurge items?
Splurge invites – Stationary items, shoes and flowers!!!! I had to control myself with flowers I just LOVE them. Save – hmmm cutting back on all the flowers I was originally going to get.
What music did you play for those special moments?
Aisle song- Brooke Fraser arithmetic. First dance – Alicia Keys and Usher – If I ant got you.
In hindsight, is there anything that you would have done differently?
Because I work in weddings I always see little things that I think oh I would have done that but they are just small little details. But NO it was perfect LOVED it!
What advice would you give to future brides to be?
My advice that I got from one of my dearest friends and probably some of the best advice… Was to relax and take in the day because you literally blink and it’s over so savor every moment. It really is true and to be honest I was still a little stressed ha-ha but I definitely had that stuck in my head.
Also don’t worry if the timing doesn’t run exactly as scheduled it all comes together in the end. That’s something I know from working in weddings.
What do you love most about being a MRS?
Being able to have the same last name as my son. And silly things like being someone’s wife! It didn’t change anything really for us its just sealed the deal more I guess.
I just have to say I the most AMAZING suppliers!!! Love loves love them all! – Mia
