DIY FRIDAY. 10 Wedding signage ideas that you could totally make THIS WEEKEND!

Signage is not only a useful wedding decoration, but an easy and affordable way to practice your sweet crafting (or bribery) skills, and as a result make your wedding day fabulously unique. These ideas may look like they belong in the hard basket, but I promise they are easy peasy (well my interpretation of the instructions are) and today I have picked 10 of my favies that you can easily whip up over the weekend, without messing up your garage sale schedule…

10 Wedding signage ideas that you could totally make THIS WEEKEND!

ONE.

Hunt down an old picture with an ornate looking frame and remove everything except the glass. Spray the frame a colour that suits your style ad buy a pretty pen (try a stationery or scrapbooking store) and beg your friend with the fanciest handwriting to do their thing! To prop it up ask a local artist or school if your can pretty please borrow their easel for the day (bribe away!)

TWO.

Find an old pallet, remove or add some pieces, and then paint your heart out! This rustic signage idea is SO easy to do and pallets are pretty easy to find if you just simply ask around. Ask industrial companies and supermarkets for newer pallets or local farmers and ‘hoarders’ for older ones!

THREE.

This is pretty similar to the first idea, but instead of removing the painting to use the glass, do the opposite! Slap on a coat or two of chalkboard paint  or why not just paint it black and hand paint the lettering on (hello creative friend!) Surface not so flat? Replace your painting with a thin piece of MDF (the boys at Bunnings will help you measure and cut it if hubby is not handy… or willing!)

FOUR.

Have something to say? Hang em high! These sweet little signs can be easily made over the weekend with a little handy work, a drill and some string, and are a beautiful way to decorate your day. My sneaky trick? Draw the shapes on the wood first then … did I mention the helpful boys at Bunnings?

FIVE.

I have always had a thing for wooden ladders and you can almost guarantee that somebodie’s grandad has one in his garage that you could borrow. In this case I would make the little signs separate as grandad might not appreciate you vandalising his ladder! BUT if you can find one to buy (the older and with more paint splatters the better I say) then paint away beautiful people!

SIX.

Not every sign needs to be of the wooden variety and paper can look just as beautiful (especially tucked in beside flowers) This super easy to make sign could be whipped up in less than ten minutes with some great font in good ole Microsoft Word, the thickest paper your printer can handle, a hole punch and some purrrty ribbon. Want some free fancy font? Check out my favie dafont.

SEVEN.

Hessian is one of my favourite fabrics not only because it is affordable, but because it can wiggle its way into some many wedding day styles. Rustic, vintage, country chic to name a few, you can use a little or a whole lot to get exactly the look you need. It also makes a great canvas for a little lettering and you are only limited by your imagination when it comes to how to use it. Google free printable stencils or source some fab shapes and words at your local craft store and get creating!

EIGHT.

By the time you have made the other seven signs you will be totally ready for this one. Much easier than it looks, it’s a matter of collecting bits of wood (I am dreaming of driftwood for a beach wedding) and nail them all to a long stick (after you paint them) and then poke it into a pot plant full of dirt, surround the pot in whatever you please and let the flowers pop through, or add some for the day! This clever idea is the perfect way to welcome your guests and makes one hell of a roadside sign!

NINE.

You have welcomed your guests with idea number 8 but they still need to know where to get in on the action. By now you are a pro at whipping up signs so there really is no explanation needed… BUT why not add times to your sign so guests know where to be when at what times. You likey?

Now for those expert diy’ers, here is a little inspiration that proves that stunning decorations can be created with only a few simple elements and in this case ribbon, some fabric (and if you are really clever you can ruffle it up) and two gorgeous ornate photo frames (I swear my nana has these exact same ones!) You could do this perfectly with strings of ribbon, hessain or even mismatched fabric!

Just letting you know that Google image search (right click, Search Google for this image) is great for pins without the original source – the wedding sign from #9 can be found here: http://blissmagatx.com/noteworthy-nuptials-kristen-spencer/
