Alternative, Elegant Wedding Inspiration You Will Fall In Love With

Kate Tovey Wedding Photography_0039
Alternative is a word that always grabs my attention in the wedding world. In a sea of similarity I am always in awe of those vendors who go beyond the norm to create fresh ideas for brides who like to celebrate their big day a little differently. The team involved in today’s swoon worthy shoot have done a fantastic job of combining each of their talents to create elegant and unique wedding inspiration. Thank you ladies (and gentleman!) for sharing this with P&L. Oh can I just mention that cake…. WOW!

“As a wedding stylist it is our job to bring to life the ideas that our clients have. Although this may encompass a variation of characteristics, we tend to lean more towards a certain style. In my case, this is romantic and feminine. So when Kate Tovey Photography approached me about joining the team to create an alternative shoot I was a little unsure. Kate and Ali sent through a few pictures of a similar look that they liked and gave me a short brief. Alternative but elegant at the same time. As I was driving along one day, I came across St Johns Stone Church and the design was born.

I fell in love with the old world “gothicness” of the stone and knew we had found our venue. The church windows were framed in a white wash frame and surrounded by trees and greenery so I decided to feature those colours and our palette of “white”, green, gold and a variation of greys, was born. Gold foil is becoming increasingly popular in NZ and I thought that by adding the foil to an otherwise simple look, we would easily bring in the elegance that the other vendors were aiming for.”

“The flowers and botanicals were chosen carefully to fit the palette of the elegant but slightly off-beat, alternative theme. Classic white toned flowers were paired with touches of deep black plum and bramble berries. The grey foliage and velvet ribbon detail brought the look together to coordinate with the grey toned elements throughout. Matte grey is going to be huge this year and is a totally new look from previous years.”

“When dessert inspiration strikes it strikes hard…. After being provided the styling brief I new this cake design had to be as stunning and spectacular as how it was to be displayed – hanging in a tree on a bed of florals. I found myself scrolling through Instagram and I came across an image of a beautiful vintage piece of furniture, featuring gilded molding, hand painted florals and as if meant to be the colours matched those on the styling brief perfectly!

I knew at once Id found my cake inspiration so I set to work on the cake and dessert designs. While incorporating the hand painted florals, grey tones and gilded molding I also added vintage keys, keys holes and metallic gold tones – not only did this fit with the styling but is very on trend in food fashion at the moment”
