I thought bridesmaids dresses were meant to be the fun part, the bees knees & ultimate in wedding shopping. I had visions of Sex & The City esque sprees, filled with laughter, wine with lunch and easily sourced matching shoes.
Alas, reality is cruel and I have discovered bridesmaids dresses to be the most challenging part of the entire wedding planning process – yes, more painful than the guest list even, and harder than deciding on my own wedding gown.
‘Why are all the nice dresses too expensive?’, ‘Why does my groom have an opinion on this?’ and ‘Why do we all live sooo far apart?’ I cry in dismay!
The problem is, you love your bridesmaids, dontcha? You want them to look and feel just as amazing as you do. At the end of the day, they’re up that aisle too, at your side with packs of tissues & bottles of rescue remedy. So how to overcome the issues of individual body shapes, a range of skin tones & different timezones? I’m not sure. But having a pretty good sense of the look & feel of your wedding day certainly helps! Make a pretty bridesmaid moodboard like this blush & bronze one, print it out & keep it in your handbag. Use it to avoid getting side tracked and help explain to people what you mean by blush nude, dusty apricot or boho chic…!
